10 years ago, I answered a question with a video "Which 10 philosophical works would you bring with you to a desert island?" People have been asking me if my list would change in the present, and it turns out, it has significantly.
There are only three works on the old list that make it to the new one (though one author does make both lists, but with two different works). Here’s the video I produced discussing my new list
So, here’s the question for you. What works would make your list? Which works would you bring along with you for an indefinite stay on a desert island?
I finally got to watch this! I was just hoping Montaigne would make the cut this time, and then you produced him, which was cool! As you said, with Montaigne you get lots of bonus Plutarch and all kinds of other thinkers. I agree that we should change our 'lists' over time. I think ten years ago I'd have included Plato, Protagoras; now I'd bring Gorgias instead (maybe not such a huge change, lol). I'd bring Boethius, Consolation of Philosophy.
It would indeed be strange to stick with the same list, decade after decade. Believe it or not, some people's reaction to the video is being a bit upset because I didn't keep one of the books (or thinkers) from the previous list!
