Get well Mr Sadler. Take your time until you are truly well. From: John Kovacevich in Auckland New Zealand, a land so far away, it's tomorrow

Although I’m healthy (thankfully), I have had quite a few surgeries in my life. Way more than the average for a guy my age.

I’ve had great doctors and have nothing bad to say about any of them but in my experience they, sometimes, tend to underestimate the hardship of the recovery process a tiny bit :)

It is strenuous on the body, regardless of how minor the operation is.

My unsolicited advice is take it easy, take your time. I’m in one of your classes; we can wait.

Wishing you the best recovery!

Hope you get well soon! You have taught us so much (your Enchiridion videos were a foundation to our early studies of stoicism). Now, we remind you to respect your own purpose and place in nature: 'Don't hope events will turn out the way you want, welcome events in whichever way they happen; this is the path to peace.' Chapter 8 and 'if you undertake a role beyond your means, you will not only embarrass yourself in that, you miss the chance of a role that you might have filled successfully.' Chapter 37

As you have said, adjusting to who we are now (not perceptions of who we were or want to be) is a challenge each of us face. As we grow older we become unrecognisable to our former selves and must adapt as nature challenges.

Emma Thompson said once when asked what she wished she had known about marriage when she was younger, (I paraphrase) 'that after 30 years, I wouldn't be married to the same person though I would be at the same time. We all must change and respect those changes in ourselves and each other. After all, who wants to be married to someone who doesn't grow?'

Please take care of yourself and respect where you are in your journey in life. We have so much more to learn from you if you do.

Thanks for letting us know how you're doing. Take care of yourself and give yourself as much time as you need to heal. If that means you have to postpone class, don't give it a second thought. We all want you well and can resume class when you're feeling up to it😊
