Thanks for this. As an aspiring Stoic I often wonder if I spend too much time watching and talking about soccer. It sometimes makes me feel I'm not on the right track. But lately I've tried to put some of your suggestions into practice. I live in Athens and last season the team I grew up to despise won a European trophy, the first time this ever occurred for a Greek team. Normally I would have been outraged but I chose to look at it more......stoically. I took some national pride in the achievement and felt it best to rise above petty rivalries that had dogged me for decades. I began to think more about the harm of negative emotions involved in fandom. Your piece reminded me of all that.
