Mind & Desire Podcast Episode 2 - Epictetus On Philosophy's Beginning

Where should philosophy begin? Epictetus offers us one good answer

I’m happy to say that I have produced and uploaded the second episode of my new podcast Mind & Desire. One of the key issues when you’re doing any thing with as broad a field as philosophy is to decide where to start.

I decided to begin by looking at a chapter by a philosopher whose work and thought I draw upon a lot, Epictetus, not least because that chapter is titled “What is the beginning of philosophy?”

Of course, he isn’t the only, or even the first, thinker who weighed in on this important topic, and there’s no requirement that you buy into his particular take on the matter. But I think his point of view is well worth considering and mulling over. So see what you think!

(In the episode, I also mention someone else important in the history of philosophy who doesn’t hold exactly the same view as Epictetus, but one that shares some features in common)
