Video and Podcast Resources on Ursula K Leguin's Original Earthsea Trilogy

33 video lectures and 33 podcast episodes on the first three books of Earthsea

A few years back, I designed and taught an online course at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design on one massively important fantasy series of novels and short stories, set Ursula K Leguin’s narrative universe of “Earthsea”. (I have plans to develop an open-enrollment version of that course later on down the line, but that’s a separate topic!)

We used the recently published omnibus volume that gathers all the books and stories of Earthsea along with Charles Vess’ illustrations and Leguin’s own reflections and reminiscences.

I created entire sets of lecture videos in my main YouTube channel for my students enrolled in the class, covering all of the key themes, characters, plot-points. More recently, I took many of those videos and edited them into Sadler’s Lectures podcast episodes as well. So at this point, I have lectures available in both formats on the entire original trilogy.

They might be of use to anyone who is interested in reading A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, and The Farthest Shore, and who might benefit from a little guidance or insight from another reader along the way. If you haven’t read the books, and just want to watch the videos or listen to the podcast episodes, you can do that as well. But I hope these resources will entice you into reading the novels.

When I have produced podcast episodes on the later three books in the Earthsea series, and the two stand-alone earliest stories, I’ll create another of these resource pages providing organized links to those as well.
