As some of you may have seen, I’ve been experimenting recently with doing some Substack Live events centered on philosophy.
I just did an Open House event last week open to everyone (which you can watch here), where I talked about upcoming online workshops and classes (including the Stoic Heart workshop next Saturday, and the 10-week Philip K Dick class starting Saturday, May 30), and then answered a lot of interesting questions people raised during the session.
I’m very grateful for those who choose to support my work here by becoming paid subscribers. Frankly without that sort of generosity on the part of some people, I couldn’t afford to spend anywhere near the time I do developing all the free philosophy resources I provide in writing, video, podcast, and other forms.
So it’s only fair those who do choose to contribute to my livelihood and vocation get something extra sometimes. One of those extras is a chance to participate in two livestreaming events per month, starting tomorrow
Our first one is scheduled for Tuesday May 12, 1 PM Central Time. You can access it here, and apparently even add the event to your own calendar so you don’t miss it!
Here’s the link for that session, if you’d like to join it or put it in your schedule!
As you can tell from the title, there will be a particular focus. I’ll be discussing a number of points that have to do with studying Platonic dialogues. As I do in pretty much all of my live streams, I’ll have some notes prepared ahead of time for what I intend to talk about, but I’ll also tackle relevant questions and comments that participants bring to the proverbial table in the chat.
You might ask; why that particular topic? Well, since I do a good bit of work helping people with studying philosophy outside the confines of traditional academia, I’ve decided these particular live-streams would start out with how to engage in study on your own (or perhaps with others as well). And since I think Plato’s a good place to start, it makes sense to start off these livestreams by talking a bit about why and how.
If you’re already a paid subscriber who helps me carry out my work, I hope you’ll consider joining me for this first event! If you’re not but you’d like to get in on it, consider the fact that for the price of a drink or snack per month, you could get in on this and some other cool stuff those who support enjoy!
